It was a warm evening
I do remember
When leaves were swirling
In late September
The sun was setting
On a perfect afternoon
And looking in the sky
I could faintly see the moon
There was a wind blowing
Through the park that day
It followed my lead
As I walked towards the bay
It had been a year
I do remember
Since the pain had started
In late September
I walked in no hurry
Through the orange trees
Listening to the waves
And smelling the breeze
The bench came into sight
Where we always used to sit
Where we could talk for hours
Or even just a bit
I loved every moment
Every laugh, every smile
All if it was precious
You were always worth my while
We had such fun
I do remember
Before you left
In late September
I'd been writing
It's what I do
But since you've gone
I write only to you
It's not to remember
I could never forget
But never saying goodbye
Is one thing I regret
And so I wrote
A letter a day
Everyday I'd go back
But the letters would never stay
You loved my writing
I do remember
Until that day
In late September
I liked to think
That it was you all along
Reading my letters
But I think I was wrong
Maybe someone picked them up
Or maybe they blew away
But I continued to write
Each and every day
I had it all
I do remember
Until autumn took you
In late September
